Friend,
Agriculture is more than the backbone of our economy—it is a way of life that shapes our communities, our values, and our future. And from the very beginning, women have been at the center of that story.
Nearly one-third of farmers in my district are women—leading businesses, balancing the books, adopting new technology, and strengthening rural communities, often while balancing family life and helping shape the next generation of agriculture. Their contributions are not new, but for far too long they have gone unrecognized.
Women in agriculture are innovators and problem-solvers. They bring new ideas to the field, play a critical role in conservation and sustainability, and help ensure our food and fuel systems remain strong. Whether they are working the land, advancing ag science, teaching the next generation, or building careers in agribusiness, women are essential to agriculture’s success.
Recognizing women’s role in agriculture is not just about honoring the past—it’s about investing in the future. We should encourage young women to pursue careers in agriculture, support working moms in rural communities, and ensure policies reflect the realities they face.
It’s long past time we fully recognize and celebrate the women who help feed, fuel, and sustain Iowa, America, and the world every single day.
Sincerely,
