Community Keeps Community Safe

On February 4th, 2026 the Mendota Heights City Council passed Resolution 2026-11 Reaffirming the city of Mendota Heights' Support for Police Department Policy 412 Regarding immigration Violations [ [link removed] ].

The resolution reaffirms that the City of Mendota Heights does not engage in immigration enforcement and that the Police Department’s role is focused on public safety and enforcing state law and local ordinances. It sets clear limits on cooperation with federal immigration authorities. By emphasizing lawful procedures, oversight, and protections for victims and witnesses, the resolution reinforces a process that prioritizes constitutional policing, community trust, and equitable service.

Ash
Weed of the Month: Rowan Mountain Ash

Rowan Mountain Ash ("Sorbus aucuparia") is an invasive tree native to Europe and Asia that has been planted in the U.S. as an ornamental. It resembles the native mountain ash ("Sorbus americana"), but the invasive species has larger fruit and flowers, and leaflets that are more rounded and less pointed.

This species spreads aggressively by producing bright orange/red berries and can shade out native plants in forested areas. Leaves are compound with 9–15 toothed leaflets, and the tree produces clusters of small white flowers followed by berry-like fruits.

*Control Recommendations (MN DNR):*

* Do not plant Rowan Mountain Ash; it is still sold but will be phased out within three years.
* Prevent spread by cleaning clothing and gear after hiking in areas where it occurs.
* Remove young plants by hand or with equipment.
* Use systemic herbicides; cut stumps must be treated to prevent re-sprouting.
