Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am aware of the serious concerns that have been raised regarding recent fire response operations in the Borough of Mercersburg, including questions surrounding water availability and hydrant access.

I am currently in communication with the entities involved, including the borough and the water authority, to better understand the circumstances and the specific infrastructure or capacity challenges they may be facing. Before any conclusions can be drawn, it is important that all parties clearly identify what the actual water system limitations are, how they impact emergency response and what solutions they feel would be helpful.

Once that information is fully disclosed and understood, I will review whether there is any appropriate role my office or the Commonwealth can play to help facilitate solutions, improve coordination, or ensure public safety concerns are being properly addressed.

The safety of our residents and the ability of our first responders to do their jobs effectively is of paramount importance. I will continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide updates as more verified information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Senator Doug Mastriano

Pennsylvania State Senator
