** Dear John,
------------------------------------------------------------
Next Tuesday, February 10, the U.S. House Committee on House Administration will hold a hearing on the “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) Act ([link removed]) (H.R. 7300). The bill is full of unfunded, unworkable, anti-voter mandates across many aspects of election administration. Among its provisions, the bill would ban ranked choice voting ([link removed]) (RCV) in federal general elections.

TAKE ACTION ([link removed])
How would the MEGA Act impact ranked choice voting?
If passed, the MEGA Act (which has also been called the “SAVE Act 2.0”) would immediately impact five states using ranked choice voting in federal elections – Alaska, Maine, Hawaii, Georgia, and Washington, DC.
The RCV prohibition represents anti-democratic overreach – disrespecting and disregarding the will of voters, especially in Alaska and Maine. Voters in Alaska and Maine each voted for ranked choice voting multiple times.
An RCV ban would also hurt military and overseas voters in Georgia, who are only able to participate in runoffs because of ranked ballots. The provision would not have a direct effect on RCV in city and state elections; however, it would likely have a chilling effect on cities, counties, and states considering RCV adoption.
Overall, the bill – which would also prohibit mail-in voting, impose burdensome voter ID requirements, and install a slew of unnecessary mandates – would be costly and chaotic for election administration.
At a time when nearly 9 out of 10 Americans ([link removed]) say our political system is broken, the MEGA Act would sabotage a party-neutral reform that is actually working for voters. Instead of trying to win our votes, the MEGA Act’s sponsors are trying to control our elections.
The only path to a strong, functioning republic is to respect voters and empower our elected leaders to work for them. Ranked choice voting helps put us on that path. Banning it would take us backward.
Please take action and help us stop the MEGA Act ([link removed]) today.
Sincerely,
Lakeisha Steele
