Friend, the Fourth Amendment protects us from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government.

It’s one of the most brilliant ideas in the Constitution: Without either probable cause of a crime or a valid warrant from the judicial branch, law enforcement cannot enter your home, your car, your place of work, or even stop you on the street to search your belongings.

ICE is making a mockery of this crucial backstop against government tyranny and trampling on our rights in real time.

In their brutal occupation of Minnesota and around the country, ICE is using something called an “administrative warrant” — a warrant not signed by a judge, but rather signed by ICE itself.

According to DHS’s own documents, these warrants are only valid in a situation where a judge has already issued a removal order for an undocumented immigrant. It carries no legal value elsewhere.

But on the ground, we have seen video after video of ICE using administrative warrants to violate the law and violently enter any home, car, or private property that they see fit. It doesn’t matter if you’re an undocumented immigrant, a legal immigrant, a refugee with protected status, or full US citizen.

Make no mistake, this is a Constitutional crisis, and it deserves our attention. If ICE can enter anyone’s home without a judicial warrant, then there is no justice system left. Just DHS and ICE calling the shots, acting as their own judge, and harassing, intimidating, searching, and arresting anyone they see fit.

Tyrannical and un-American actions like these are exactly why Ed Markey has called for ICE to simply be defunded and abolished. From violating Constitutional and civil rights, to brutalizing observers and protesters, to murdering innocent Americans, the gang of thugs known as ICE should be done away with for good.
