Dear Friend,
Securing Minnesota’s Elections
On Monday, I was proud to join my friend and colleague, Minnesota Congressman Pete Stauber, in introducing legislation to secure Minnesota’s elections. The Minnesota Voter Integrity Act requires the state of Minnesota to provide information on voting records, including same-day voter registration and election administration data, in order to continue to receive funding through the Help America Vote Act of 2002.
Under the Trump Administration, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has asked Minnesota to send records relating to Minnesota’s voter registration and election data to verify their integrity. However, the state has refused to comply. Minnesotans deserve to have confidence in the fairness and security of our elections, which would be accomplished if Minnesota simply complied with the DOJ’s request.
Restoring America’s Mineral Dominance
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the Critical Minerals Dominance Act, which codifies President Trump’s executive orders on unleashing American energy and developing domestic mining on public lands. More specifically, this legislation requires the Department of the Interior to revise any agency actions that inhibited domestic mining, identify public lands that have mining potential, and increase geological mapping on public lands.
Under the Biden Administration, domestic mining was constantly under threat, especially in Minnesota. For too long, America has relied on foreign adversaries for critical minerals while we have ample resources here at home. Now, China controls approximately 60% of global mineral production, 90% of processing, and 75% of manufacturing. By returning to supplying these critical minerals ourselves, we will not only strengthen our economy, but we will also strengthen our national security. House Republicans are committed to ensuring that America is not reliant on any foreign entity for critical resources, and this legislation will help us do that.
Upholding the Rule of Law
With a vacancy for the role of United States District Court judge for the District of Minnesota, our Republican delegation reconvened the Nominations Committee we formed of the sharpest legal minds in the state. The committee considered candidates for the position to make recommendations to President Trump. After thorough consideration of many qualified applicants, the committee selected Jamie Anderson and David Asp. On Thursday, we sent our recommendations to the President. We are confident that these candidates would share our judicial philosophy, uphold the rule of law, and honorably serve their fellow Americans. You can read more about the candidates here.
I’m proud to report that we are making great progress to safeguard our elections, improve our national security, and uphold the rule of law. In the coming weeks, we will continue advancing our commonsense priorities. If there is anything my office can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
