John, 230 million women and girls worldwide live with the consequences of female genital mutilation (FGM). From Egypt and Colombia to the United States, women and girls have been facing this grave human rights violation for hundreds, if not thousands, of years – but together, we can put a stop to it once and for all.
That’s what today – International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM – is all about: saying enough is enough and working collectively to end FGM. These efforts are more important than ever as we witness progress toward ending FGM fall under threat from shrinking political will, declining investment, and backlash against women and girls’ rights. We know from experience that this work requires continued action through innovation, community-led initiatives, local-to-global advocacy, and sustained funding. And that’s why we’re coming to you today to humbly ask for your support.
Will you make a donation today to help end FGM and create a world where women and girls can live with dignity and bodily autonomy? ([link removed])

FGM can feel like a faraway issue, but more than 513,000 women and girls across the US have been subjected to or are at risk of FGM. While FGM is criminalised at the federal level and in 41 states, the majority of laws are not comprehensive, and thousands of girls in the US remain at risk. In fact, 9 US states still do not have any specific law on FGM.
That’s where Equality Now comes in. With your support this year, we are working with our partners in Connecticut, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Washington, Maryland, and California through coalition-building, awareness-raising, and intentional actions to ensure comprehensive laws against FGM and support for survivors. And that’s only in the United States. We are also actively working to end FGM across Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa.
John, with a gift of $10 or more ([link removed]) , you can help make a difference in our work and the lives of millions of women and girls. Can we count on your support today in honour of International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM? ([link removed])
In solidarity,
Divya Srinivasan
Director, Ending Gender Based Violence
