One of the biggest under-reported stories right now is the Trump administration's continued effort to end access to medical abortion, specifically mifepristone. Along with state lawmakers bent on pushing their deeply unpopular anti-abortion agenda, this administration and its backers are steadily attacking mifepristone — an FDA-approved, effective, and safe medicine used by 25 million people for medication abortion. As of January 2026, over 40 bills have been introduced to restrict medication abortion around the country.
These state-level attacks aren’t generating headlines, but that doesn't mean the threat to mifepristone is not growing rapidly. And it means care is at risk everywhere, including where abortion is legal.
Here's a reminder: Medication abortion is safe, effective, common, and absolutely essential health care. Want to test your knowledge? Join in by playing an edition of Four-Play, an educational puzzle about reproductive health and rights.
