I've said it many times before and will say it again. We have one party that's scary and another that's scared in this country.
The Republican Party grows scarier by the day. And on the crucial issue of health care, establishment Democrats are proving themselves not only afraid to lead, but even afraid to follow public opinion.
Polling in April showed that 69% of voters in the U.S. support Medicare for All. Support among those who vote for Democrats runs even stronger. Public opinion polling in May showed 8 out of every 10 people who identify themselves as Democrats favor a national Medicare for All plan. Yet nearly 8 in 10 Democratic Party insiders who dominate their convention's platform committee voted against those wishes, overwhelmingly refusing to add support for Medicare for All to their platform. If you wonder what explains their fear, follow the money.
This vote says a whole lot about why Our Wisconsin Revolution needs to exist and why we need you to stand with us. Our purpose is to challenge the establishment and shake up the system, stand for progressive principles and work for fundamental change. That vote was all about the establishment working the system, abandoning progressive principles and obstructing change.
The candidates who earn our endorsement don't straddle the fence or dodge tough issues. To get our support and stamp of approval, they need to embrace the clear and growing public consensus that our broken health care system needs a major overhaul. They need to wholeheartedly support bold solutions to economic inequality, social injustice, environmental insanity as well as health insecurity. They need to be unafraid to lead.
The Democratic National Convention's platform committee just showed how great these needs are.
