Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (IL-03) and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (NY-09) recently introduced the Melt ICE Act, a bold piece of legislation that would close all private and public immigrant detention facilities, release all immigrants from detention, and end the violent for-profit electronic monitoring system.
The Melt ICE Act would also redirect billions of taxpayer dollars toward community-based services that support working families — instead of our tax dollars being used to fund death, destruction, and terror across the country.
As families struggle to make ends meet, sometimes working two or three jobs to afford groceries and skyrocketing health care premiums, our money is being pumped into federal agencies and private detention camps that terrorize immigrants and make billionaire CEOs richer.
