This past Tuesday, we had a great rally for a #GasFreeNYC outside "National Greed" aka National Grid, the greedy gas utility. A fired up crowd urged Mayor Mamdani and the City Council to enact the #GasFreeNYC program to lower bills, create good jobs and reduce pollution. It was fun - and we know we sent a message that needs to be heard.

All across New York City, people are paying way too much for the old, dirty
oil or gas boiler lurking in their basement. And it's not just too expensive: burning oil and gas in those
dirty boilers is the city's top source of climate-heating pollution.
Thankfully,
New York City enacted Local Law 97, which covers large buildings. Local Law 97 is already cutting utility bills, creating good jobs, and reducing pollution from large buildings.
But
there are no New York City laws or a comprehensive program to cover the city's small buildings. That's
#GasFreeNYC! We're urging Mayor Mamdani and the Council to set a roughly $10,000 subsidy per 1-2 family home to cover the
cost of ditching that old dirty oil or gas boiler and installing modern,
energy efficient heat pumps, combined with an end to all new oil or gas
boiler installations starting in 2030. #GasFreeNYC would also create
good, union jobs! ?
New Yorkers can save money, create good jobs,
and slash pollution from 1-2 family homes and other small buildings if
Mayor Mamdani and the Council enact #GasFreeNYC to make heat pumps
affordable for all and end new oil and gas boiler installations.
Let's ditch the greedy gas companies!
