Resources in Response to Federal Activity in Minnesota

As Minnesota responds to an increase in federal immigration enforcement activity, the Minnesota Department of Revenue is ready to help with tax-related services.

If You Cannot File or Pay by the Due Date

Revenue does not have the authority to change tax due dates. You may ask us to cancel or reduce penalties, additional tax charges, and interest for late filing or payment if you have a reasonable cause (circumstances that cannot reasonably be expected to be under your control) or are negatively affected by the federal immigration enforcement activity.

You may request this relief, called an abatement, after we notify you of a penalty. The request must be submitted in writing. See Penalty Abatement for Individuals or Penalty Abatement for Businesses for instructions.

You should pay your tax by the due date unless you are financially unable to make the payment.

Debt Collection Relief

If you're experiencing financial hardship due to the increase in federal immigration enforcement activity and are concerned about paying your tax debt or other agency debt, please contact us. We can discuss available options to assist you.

For more information, see Collection Information.
