Friend -

Senate Republicans released the HEALS Act this week and while it falls short on many issues, it especially falls short of what moms and families need during these difficult times.

Expanding and adequately funding Medicaid is one of the most important ways that we can support pregnant and birthing people. This is especially true for Black women and women of color, who are disproportionately impacted by poor maternal healthcare and COVID-19.

We are at a critical moment to drive change at the national level. The work we do now can change how we support moms across the entire country.

Even before the pandemic, the U.S. had the highest rate of maternal death out of every high-income country. The causes ranged from poor access to healthcare to racism to misaligned incentives for health systems.

The pandemic has only amplified the challenges mothers and pregnant people face. Poor access to healthcare has become worse. Inequities in care have grown exponentially.

With 60% of maternal deaths in the U.S. already being preventable and unnecessary - what will the findings be under the lens of the pandemic?

We are not backing down from this fight. In fact, this fight is more important than ever. [[link removed]]

Thank you,
