Today we want to share an impactful story that we hope will brighten your day as much as it brightened ours:
Like 26 million other children in Ethiopia, 13-year-old Mahadiya can't regularly attend school because of the ongoing pandemic. But with the help of Save the Children's remote camel library, she can continue reading and learning at home.
Yes, you read that right – a camel library! In the Somali region of Ethiopia, camels are traditionally used to transport goods across the hot desert. Through our program, 21 camels (who carry up to 200 books in wooden boxes strapped to their backs) reach over 22,000 children in 33 different villages, including Mahadiya.

“When schools were closed, I was very sad," Mahadiya said. "However, as the camel library continued to come to our village and supplied us with storybooks. I feel very happy, and I am now able to borrow and take home the storybook that I would like to read."
Mahadiya dreams of becoming an engineer when she grows up. And with the help of programs like our camel library, made possible by supporters like you, she has the resources and support she needs to make that dream a reality – even in the face of unexpected challenges.
