Friend,
Earlier this year Democrats rammed through rules changes for the House of Representatives that provided proxy voting and remote committees for Members. They did this under the guise of safety, but this unconstitutional rules change only makes it easier for Democrats to govern by a few and phone in their responsibilities.
Recently, this was on full display at a committee mark up. Instead of being actively engaged in the proceedings, an Arizona Democrat was caught voting from ... a boat.
While so many Americans are hurting and essential workers are still showing up each day, it's a slap in the face to know that an elected official would choose to be on the lake rather than focus on the priorities of his constituents.
Not even the Civil War, the Spanish Flu of 1918 or attacks on American soil on 9/11 prevented patriots from gathering in our nation's capital to do the work of the people who elected them.
Proxy voting removes the face-to-face interaction that allows legislators to talk with each other, develop stronger legislation and share ideas. It places your voice in the hands of someone you didn't elect. You've already elected me to be your proxy vote in the U.S. House of Representatives, and I won't give that away to anyone else. Nor will I choose a day at the lake over fighting for Kansas values in Congress.
The rules change showed that Democrats care more about personal power and comfort rather than true representational, responsible governing.
With your help, we can take back the House, end the reckless way Democrats have ruled the House and give power back to the people of the United States.
Sincerely,
Rep. Ron Estes
