John,
Right now, we are facing an administration that is actively attacking Black Americans and undermining Black progress by: * Working to erase Black history from classrooms
* Slashing programs that help close the opportunity gap in Black communities
* Removing recognition of Black achievement - including Black historical figures from national websites
* Renaming military bases that once honored Black service members
* Signing an executive order targeting the National Museum of African American History
* Attacking HBCUs by reducing Department of Education funding and rolling back equity initiatives
It’s unacceptable, John. As Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus and the first African-American woman representing the Pacific Northwest in Congress, I refuse to let this erasure go unanswered.
Black history is American history, and it lives in every community, including here in the South Sound.
This month, and every month, we celebrate Black excellence, honor Black resilience, and make one thing unmistakably clear: WE WILL NOT BE ERASED.

Black Americans have fought, built, and sacrificed for generations. We will not allow one man or one administration to silence our voices or erase our story.
Thank you,
Marilyn

As the first Korean American woman and the first African-American to represent the Pacific Northwest in Congress, Marilyn made history. Now, she’s fighting for a fairer economy and a nation that is more safe, just, and secure.
