Congressional Forum Set For Feb. 9 in Rittenhouse Square
The leading candidates for the 3rd Congressional District seat presently held by retiring Rep. Dwight Evans will meet in a forum on Monday, Feb. 9, at the Church of the Holy Trinity ([link removed]) on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia.
The event is hosted by PoliticsPA ([link removed]) , in partnership with the Center City Residents’ Association ([link removed]) (CCRA), and sister news-site PhillyDaily ([link removed]) . The forum begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public ([link removed]) .
Thirteen candidates have filed their candidacy with the FEC ([link removed]) , including Democrats State Sen. Sharif Street, State Rep. Chris Rabb, State Rep. Morgan Cephas, Dr. Dave Oxman, Dr. Ala Stanford, Karl Morris, Cole Carter, NaDerah Griffin, Jahmiel Jackson, Pablo McConnie-Saad, Isaiah Martin, Robin Toldens, and Republican Sheila Armstrong.
The forum is expected to last approximately 90 minutes and will include candidates who have registered the highest fundraising and public polling numbers available. Moderators include Gina Ceisler Shapiro, CCRA Executive Vice President; Dick Polman, veteran national political columnist; and Steve Ulrich, managing editor of PoliticsPA.
The 3rd District includes several areas of the city of Philadelphia – America’s sixth-largest city – including West Philadelphia, most of Center City, and parts of North Philadelphia.
The candidates are vying to replace Evans, who announced his retirement from the U.S. House at the conclusion of this term. Evans was elected to the seat in a special election in 2016 after serving as a Pennsylvania state representative for decades.
PoliticsPA and PhillyDaily, both powered by the Fideri News Network ([link removed]) , will simulcast the event across the network’s local news sites, broadcast radio, and multimedia platforms. The Pennsylvania Cable Network
([link removed]) (PCN) will also air the forum throughout the Commonwealth.
Serving as the voice of Center City West since 1947, the Center City Residents’ Association promotes urban living; advocates for a clean, diverse and supportive community; pursues accountability; and encourages responsible development while preserving the neighborhood’s historic heritage.
PoliticsPA ([link removed]) is Pennsylvania’s premier source for nonpartisan political news and analysis. Since its founding in 2001, PoliticsPA has served as a go-to resource for elected officials, campaign professionals, journalists, and politically engaged citizens across the Commonwealth.
