For 40 years, Egale Canada has helped shape what inclusion looks like — from securing recognition under the Charter and advancing critical legal protections, to standing up for 2SLGBTQI communities in moments of backlash and rising hate.
Now, as we mark our 40th anniversary, we’re launching a year‑long campaign celebrating the people, movements, and landmark moments that have moved Canada forward.
Founded in 1986, at a pivotal moment when equality rights were coming into force, Egale emerged to ensure that 2SLGBTQI communities were not left behind. Four decades later, that mission remains as urgent as ever. Through landmark legal victories, national
research, education, and advocacy, Egale’s work has helped make the rights many people experience today both possible and defensible.
Over the coming year, join us as we reflect on our shared history, honour the leaders who got us here, and look ahead to the work still needed to ensure equality for all.
