"The Democratic base wants fighters. They want to take the fight to Donald Trump and the Republicans every single day.” That’s what Dean Obeidallah, host of The Dean Obeidallah Show on SiriusXM Progress, tells Susan J. Demas on today’s edition of First Draft on Lincoln Square. Obeidallah, who also writes The Dean’s Report [ [link removed] ] on Substack, explained what he hears daily from Democrats who call into his show and goes onto shame the members of the party for letting the base down.
“The problem is there’s 250 Democrats in the House and the Senate,” Dean notes. “…There are so many that if I read their names, you never would have heard of them. Because they’re never in the fight. They’re old-school Democrats. They go to the district. They go home. That’s it. They’re not leading the fight.”
Dean and Susan also discussed Minnesota and the announcement from Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, that there would be a draw down of agents. Dean rightfully points out that isn’t enough. “There’s still more than 2,000 ICE agents in a small regional city. And the goal there is to terrorize the people. I’ve talked to enough people in the streets there. It’s to terrorize them. It’s no different. It’s like Fallujah when the U.S. was occupying. It is no different than that during a war,” Dean says.
Dean’s biggest concern is with Trump meddling in the midterms and the looming SAVE Act before Congress that could impact millions of Americans, especially women, from voting. “The guy that’s proposing this voter integrity [bill] was convicted of 34 felonies for cheating in a 2016 election with false fine business records. It’s a guy who attempted a coup after 2020 was charged with four felonies who incited a terrorist attack to stay in power to overturn the election. That’s the guy and that’s the party proposing it. There’s no good faith. There’s no integrity. This is voter suppression.”
