Today is World Cancer Day — and for me, it hits close to home. Let me tell
you why:
My husband, Andy, was diagnosed with terminal cancer when he was 28.
Overnight, we went from planning our future together to fighting for his
life. I became his primary caregiver, and during his battle with cancer, I
held his hand through appointments and treatments — and ultimately, when
he passed away.

Even so, we knew we were lucky. Andy had access to health care, and it
brought us precious time to live and love as much as possible. Many aren’t
nearly as lucky.
I’ve met so many other families who faced the same challenge Andy and I
did, but without good health insurance and benefits. Families forced to
make impossible choices — between paying for cancer treatment or rent and
groceries. And every single day, more and more Delawareans and folks
across the country receive a hard diagnosis, and the crushing medical
bills that come with it.
But instead of making care more affordable and accessible, Donald Trump
and Republicans have been focused on destroying health care access to
reward billionaires funding their authoritarian takeover of our country.
We can’t allow two more years of that kind of cruelty. That’s why
defending this seat and taking back the House matters so much.
I promise you this: As
long as there is air in my lungs and breath in my body, I will fight to
defend health care and make universal health care a reality for every
person — but I need you with me.
[ [link removed] ]If you’re able to give — and if only if you’re able — will you chip in
$5 to power my efforts to take back the U.S. House this
year and keep up the fight for health care?
