I wanted to follow up with you after a deeply troubling few days.

This weekend, my team and I went inside the ICE facility in Baltimore after alarming reports about conditions for people being held there. What we saw confirmed why oversight matters and why silence is not an option when federal power is exercised without transparency or accountability.

At the same time, we learned that ICE quietly purchased a warehouse in Washington County to build a new detention facility without community input or public disclosure. Last week, I stood with hundreds of Marylanders to send a clear message to the Trump Administration: our communities will not be steamrolled, and our neighbors will not be targeted in silence.

Let me be clear. Planning detention facilities behind closed doors is not governance. It is intimidation. And I will not accept it.

I will continue to demand answers, conduct oversight, and stand with Marylanders who believe our government must be transparent, accountable, and humane. This work is not easy, and it is not popular with those who benefit from secrecy. But it is necessary.
