Donald Trump’s judicial nominees were asked the most basic questions imaginable about reality, and instead of clear answers, we got cowardice.
Who won the popular vote and the electoral college in the 2020 election?
The first nominee said, “President Biden was certified and served four years as president.” When pressed, he flatly refused to say more. The next three nominees repeated the same line or simply said, “Same answer.”
Was the U.S. Capitol attacked on January 6th, 2021?
The nominees claimed it would be “inappropriate” to discuss or weigh in on “political controversies.”
Nominee after nominee hid behind legal jargon and deliberate non-answers. Senator Richard Blumenthal immediately called out their behavior:
“I am insulted as a member of this body that you won’t tell us the truth, and that speaks chillingly of what you will do as a United States district judge if you are confirmed… You’ve all been carefully rehearsed… I think you failed the test.”
He’s right: these nominees auditioned to serve one man, not the Constitution. To serve a movement that punishes anyone who tells the truth, if that truth contradicts Trump. They have no business anywhere near the federal bench.
And yet, history has shown us that time and again, Senate Democrats will shrug, move on, and advance these nominees anyway. It's ridiculous.
