Governor DeWine Appoints Styer to the Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas, General and Domestic Relations Division
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced the appointment of Ryan Styer to the Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas, General and Domestic Relations Division.
Styer, of New Philadelphia, will assume office on March 2, 2026, and will take the seat formerly held by Judge Elizabeth Thomakos, who resigned. He will serve the remainder of the unfinished term and must run for election in November 2026 to retain the seat.
Styer began his law career as a legal intern in 1996, before becoming an associate at Brian Law Offices in 1998. In 1999, Styer became a partner at Styer Law Offices. While working for Styer Law Offices, he served as the Carroll County assistant public defender from 2000 to 2008 and as the Newcomerstown village solicitor from 2004 to 2008. Styer is currently serving as the Tuscarawas County prosecuting attorney.
In 1995, Styer received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and a minor in philosophy from The Ohio State University. He received his juris doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 1998.
