John, I vowed to do everything I could to stand up to Pete Hegseth. So, I sued him.
I made my case in federal court yesterday. I didn't just do it for my Constitutional rights, but for millions of retired veterans and all Americans. There is nothing more fundamental to our Democracy than the freedom to speak out about our government – that’s what I’m fighting for.
Given what’s at stake, I appreciate the judge’s careful consideration in this lawsuit.
I joined the Navy and ran for the Senate to defend this country and our Constitution.
Secretary Hegseth has censured me and is trying to demote me for things I said. For doing my job as a Senator.
This isn’t happening in isolation. Since taking office, this Administration has used its power to go after the First Amendment rights of all Americans. That goal flies in the fact of everything the United States was founded upon.
But we have something they don’t: The Constitution and the law are on our side.
Our democracy has been passed down to us, from generation to generation, for 250 years. That legacy is more than just tradition. It is woven into the fabric of our nation.
I do not intend to allow one president to tear that apart.
Don’t give up the ship.
-Mark

Mark Kelly will always fight for what he believes in, but this is different than anything he has ever faced. He has the full weight of the executive branch bearing down on him.
