Just hours ago, Trump said that the federal government should take over running elections in Detroit, accusing the city of “horrible corruption” without a shred of evidence and floating the idea of deploying federal agents to count votes in Michigan.

This is exactly how we lose our democracy.

Trump has spent years attacking Detroit voters, lying about election fraud, and trying to overturn the will of the people. Now he’s planning to take over control of local elections just months before the 2026 midterms.

Let’s be clear: Detroit runs fair, secure elections. Michigan runs fair, secure elections. And Trump knows it.

Trump isn’t trying to “secure” elections. He’s trying to control them and Michigan is ground zero.

That’s why the work of the Michigan Democratic Party has never been more urgent. We are organizing year-round to protect local election officials, defend voters’ rights, and make sure no president can strong-arm our democracy. But we can only do that with grassroots support.
