Trump issued an executive order in December to completely abolish the department, after he slashed BILLIONS from education funds, initiatives, and grants in his first year — canceling hundreds of in-progress grants across more than 30 programs, including programs for civics, arts, special education, and support for migrant students.

By tearing down the Department of Education, this administration has made an explicit choice to abandon students and families.

Education is the social infrastructure that underpins our whole democracy, which is why Trump has attacked it so forcefully.
