Team,
There are a lot of dangerous people serving in the Trump Administration.
MAGA loyalists who will put Donald Trump’s needs above our country’s.
But no one is worse than Stephen Miller, an unelected white nationalist
who has accumulated an immense amount of power in the Trump
administration.
Stephen Miller has been a bigot for his whole career — working on
anti-immigration legislation and supporting right-wing hate groups before
becoming a part of Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign.
He’s the architect of some of the worst and most hateful policies of the
Trump Administration.
Some of the people closest to the president, like Steve Bannon, refer to
Stephen Miller as the Prime Minister. Others, like Kevin McCarthy, call
him Trump's brain.
Regardless of his nicknames, he has had a significant influence on Donald
Trump in the most draconian of ways. In just the first Trump
administration:
You can credit Miller with the Muslim travel ban.
You can credit him with the family separation policy that took kids away
from their parents and put them in cages.
You can credit him with trying to do away with DACA.
After Trump lost the 2020 election, Stephen Miller filed lawsuits trying
to overturn the election result. And for Trump 2.0, Stephen Miller has
somehow become even more extreme.
He’s drafting Trump’s immigration policies. He’s “protecting his friends
and going after the bad guys,” in his own words. And in his world, his
friends are people who look like him — straight, white men. Anyone else —
women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, Black Americans, Latinos, and
beyond — well, sorry, but Stephen Miller doesn’t care about your rights
and freedoms.
The latest, and perhaps most egregious, of Miller’s policies is his effort
to invoke the Insurrection Act. This would allow the President to order
the military to basically police our streets — arresting people, enforcing
the law, basically putting us under martial law.
We cannot let Stephen Miller continue with this vile agenda.
We have to continue and intensify what we've been doing — not just here in
Congress as we fight to overhaul ICE.
We need to protest, support our neighbors, and capture the
administration’s lawlessness on video to show the country and the world
what’s happening. And we must demand accountability.
And come November, after the elections, there needs to be accountability.
Thanks for reading this long email about Trump’s bigot-in-chief. We have
to know who is calling the shots behind the scenes and, more importantly,
do all we can to stop him.
More soon,
Adam
