John,
In 2025, the administration eliminated the CDC's Office on Smoking and Health, which has played a critical role in the nation's fight against tobacco-related disease and death. We fought back. And this week, we achieved a major victory.
Congress stepped up and continued funding for the CDC's lifesaving tobacco prevention and cessation program.
The bipartisan FY 2026 funding package that just passed includes level funding of $246.5 million for the CDC’s tobacco control program, which is the only dedicated source of federal funding for state tobacco prevention and cessation programs. It also provides critical support for quitlines and other services to help smokers quit, including the Tips from Former Smokers media campaign that has helped more than one million people quit smoking and saved an estimated $7.3 billion in health care costs.
This victory wouldn't have been possible without advocates like you who took action and made your voices heard!
With your support, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids:
* Generated nearly 86,000 emails from constituents to key members of Congress urging support for this program.
* Ran ads and generated media coverage nationwide about the devastating impact of the proposed cuts.
* Rallied a coalition of over 100 organizations to contact the administration and Congress.
* Supported litigation to block harmful and illegal administration actions.
We should take a moment to celebrate this critical win – but also acknowledge that the fight is not over.
Now, our work begins to ensure the administration follows the law and uses this money as directed – to protect kids and save lives. You can help us by making a contribution today.
