JOHN,

Public education is about more than classes and credits. It’s where students
learn how democracy actually works — by speaking, organizing, questioning, and
engaging with ideas.

That’s why what’s happening in Texas should concern all of us.

Last year, Texas lawmakers passed a law BANNING all First Amendment–protected
speech on public college campuses between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Peaceful protests.
Prayer meetings. Student gatherings. Political discussion. Even inviting a
speaker is prohibited based solely on the time of day.

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the law, but the fact that this law
passed at all tells us something important. Far-right extremists are concerned
about control — and about narrowing the role public education plays in
preparing students for civic life.

Sign the petition to send a clear message: there is no curfew on the
Constitution, and public education must remain a place of free thought, debate,
and democratic participation.

At Educated We Stand, we know that attacks on free expression are part of a
broader strategy to politicize education — from K–12 classrooms to college
campuses. The goal is the same: silence dissent, punish disagreement, and
weaken the democratic purpose of public schools.

That’s why we’re speaking out — and why we’re asking you to add your name.

→ Sign our petition demanding that Texas protect free expression on public
college campuses — at all hours.

This case could shape how far states go in restricting student speech
nationwide. Adding your name helps show that educators, families, and voters
are paying attention — and won’t accept political control of our public schools.
