A State Senate seat in Texas just made national news.
Over the weekend, a left-wing Democrat beat a conservative Republican – and a friend – running in a longtime conservative stronghold. An area that had been firmly Republican for 40 years voted by a 14 point margin to go blue. It’s nuts.
Let me be clear: I’m an optimist. This loss does not have to be a harbinger of doom.
However, let me be also clear: I love my state. If we don’t get serious, what we love about our state will be gone by this time next year.
We have to approach this election with clear-eyed realism if we have any hopes of being successful. We can’t bury our head in the sand and pretend that everything is ok. In a political environment where neither Party is popular and the country is generally unhappy, swing voters react against the Party in power – with money, energy, and votes.
In 2024, that sentiment led candidates more aligned with our worldview to victory.
In 2026, such angst could flip our state in a wicked direction.

There’s increased optimism from leftists that they can take control of the Governor’s Mansion and the State House. They’re openly casting a vision of higher taxes, DEI, gender ideology, anti-enforcement, repeal of school choice, and imposing a culture of death on our state.
Will the Christian response be to show more zeal for freedom, flourishing families, God’s Design, the rule of law, and the value of life than the God-haters zealous hostility toward our values?

What happened in Texas doesn’t have to be Georgia’s fate, but it is consistent with recent losses seen here and around the country. The national environment and trends do not make November look good for us…
But our God is bigger than national environments and trends.
