Trump's racism is fueling a potentially deadly political stunt and lives are at stake.
Everytown for Gun Safety

Dear John,

What President Trump has unleashed in Portland is shocking — using armed federal agents to intimidate and confront protestors. And now he's deploying agents to Chicago and other major cities under the banner of fighting gun violence, but really, it's a clear attempt to blame Black Lives Matter for spikes in violence. This show of force is a political stunt and it does not keep us safe — it's dangerous and puts more lives at risk.

If President Trump truly wanted to help American cities plagued by gun violence, he'd pass common-sense gun laws, work to combat structural racism, and listen to the communities hardest hit by gun violence. Instead, Trump chooses racist fear-mongering. He uses racist tropes to blame cities for gun violence instead of strengthening lax gun laws that allow illegal guns to flow into cities.

Our work to strengthen gun laws and support real solutions to gun violence are so crucial today — and that's why we're asking for your support. Fuel our work to end gun violence in America and counter Trump's dangerous actions.

We know that a major cause of gun violence in Chicago is illegal guns that wind up there from Indiana — a state with incredibly weak gun laws. If the President and Senate leadership were willing to pass gun violence prevention policies like background checks on all gun sales, it would immediately be harder for guns to fall into the wrong hands in Indiana and flow into neighboring cities.

Trump and his allies in the Senate could have passed a background checks bill more than a year ago. Instead, he resorts to the racism, stoking fear, and state-sanctioned terror that has been the mark of his administration. Please, help us fight back against Trump's extremism today and fuel our work to stop gun violence in America.

Thank you for all you do,
