The Green Party of New York Urges All to Join the 2026 NY Health Act Lobby Day in Albany on Tuesday ?March 17th! <[link removed]>
The Green Party of New York and healthcare justice advocates will join forces converging on the state capitol for the 2026 New York Health Act (NYHA) Lobby Day, Tuesday March 17th. We collectively demand Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature move to pass the NYHA, making it a top legislative priority for 2026. Currently, 1 million New Yorkers lack health insurance, a number expected to rise by 1.5 million due to Trump's federal budget cuts, leading to an estimated $3 billion in annual uncompensated care. This burden will disproportionately affect low-income individuals, immigrants and communities of color. Hochul's proposed solutions to protect New Yorkers' healthcare are weak, temporary, and incomplete.
The NYHA (S3425/A1466) is an active bill that would create a Single-Payer/Medicare for All system, guaranteeing comprehensive, high-quality care for everyone living and working in New York state regardless of income, employment or immigration status, while eliminating premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. It would save billions, with over 90% of New Yorkers paying the same or less for healthcare. Extremely popular amongst the public and in the legislature, the bill passed the NY Assembly four years in a row (2015-2018), and from 2021-2024, it had a majority of co-sponsors in both the Democratic "supermajority" Senate and Assembly. Despite this, Governor Hochul has never publicly supported the NYHA, and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins has blocked it from a floor vote in the Senate. The Green Party is part of a broad coalition pressuring the legislature to finally pass the NYHA in the Spring 2026 session to protect all New Yorkers.
