When Typhoon Tino hit the Philippines this past November, our teams were among the first on the ground with emergency response services in Cebu. In Talisay, MSF launched a mobile clinic to provide essential medical and mental health services to people affected by the typhoon. We have also distributed non-food item kits to communities impacted by the typhoon and subsequent flooding.

MSF has supported deep cleaning operations and the restoration of functionality at Cebu Provincial Hospital. The hospital was severely affected by flooding and mud—the destruction was extensive, and the road to recovery will be long.

In recent years, tropical cyclones in the Philippines have been increasing in intensity. The 2024 storm season proved to be record-breaking, with six typhoons hitting the country within a 30-day period starting in late October.

MSF teams responded quickly—reaching the worst-affected districts to offer basic health care, distribute essential supplies such as drinking water and hygiene kits, and monitor the risk of waterborne diseases. The increased risk of extreme weather events in the Philippines and elsewhere has resulted in the loss of life and property and is increasingly affecting vulnerable communities.
