Over the past two weeks, across the country, Winter Storm FERN snapped
power lines, flooded homes, and left people in freezing darkness.
We are fighting ice in an ice storm with shovels, candles, neighbors, and
grit. This is what resilience looks like when the state fails.
Kristi Noem failed to respond to this storm. She failed during last
summer’s floods. Congress is cutting FEMA funding, slashing federal
workers, and blocking emergency response, then feigning surprise when
local disaster response collapses.
