John,

Yesterday, something important happened in Austin.

After sustained public pressure, Austin City Council removed Item 3 from the agenda — a proposed contract with LiveView Technologies that would have deployed AI surveillance cameras in our public parks and pools.

That didn’t happen by accident.

It happened because neighbors spoke up, because dozens of local organizations organized, and because people refused to accept mass surveillance as the answer to community safety.

We want to be clear: this was a coalition win.

Organizations, advocates, technology advocates, faith groups, and everyday residents pushed together to stop this from moving forward. Ground Game Texas was proud to be one part of that broader effort. And it matters.

Because community safety should mean investing in people — not spying on them. Because surveillance infrastructure, once installed, rarely shrinks.

And because public spaces should be places for rest, play, organizing, and connection — not monitoring.

That said, this fight isn’t over.

Removing an item from the agenda is a meaningful step, but it’s not a guarantee. These proposals tend to resurface quietly, under new names, or in moments when fewer people are watching. The only thing that consistently stops them is organized, sustained community power.

That’s where you come in.

If you’re able, we’re asking you to chip in today to help sustain this work — not just for Ground Game Texas, but for the broader ecosystem of organizing that makes wins like this possible.

Your support helps us.

  • Stay ready for rapid-response moments like this one
  • Educate communities before decisions are made behind closed doors
  • Defend civil liberties and local democracy across Texas

When we organize together, we can stop harmful policies — even when powerful interests are pushing them.

Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for showing up. And thank you for helping ensure that the next time this comes up, we’re ready again.

In solidarity,

Ground Game Texas Team

P.S. If you took action on this — emailed Council, shared posts, showed up, or talked to a neighbor — this moment is because of you. Let’s keep going, juntos.
