Dear Friends and Comrades,
Make your opposition to Blackstone’s takeover of PNM before the Public Regulation Commission on Thursday, February 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The in-person meeting will be at the Public Regulation Commission Roadrunner Conference Room, located at 4100 Osuna Rd NW, 1st Floor, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
To comment virtually contact Patrick Rodriguez at [email protected] or (505) 490-7910. Tell him your name and that you are making a public comment on DOCKET NO. 25-00060-UT, Blackstone's proposed acquisition of Public Service Company of New Mexico and its parent company TXNM Energy.
Comments are limited to 3 minutes or less. Speak as a citizen, not DSA member since we will be making formal comments later in the proceedings.
Keys points to make:
PNM provides electricity to more than 65% of New Mexican families and small businesses. Putting this essential energy infrastructure under private equity control harms the public interest.
New Mexican communities will face unaffordable electricity bills and endless rate hikes. Blackstone is NOT offering to freeze rates, a standard benefit in an acquisition of this size. Without a freeze Blackstone can simply apply for a rate increase as soon as the deal closes.
Blackstone, like other private equity firms, has a dark record of recklessly squeezing profits from businesses while hollowing out their services, leaving workers and customers to suffer the consequences.
More dirty gas plants will be needed to feed Blackstone’s growing portfolio of data centers. This will drain our scarce water, poison our air and worsen the climate crisis.
Please reject this buyout and prioritize the health, safety, and economic wellbeing of New Mexicans over enriching Blackstone.
In Solidarity,
Santa Fe DSA
