Hey John,

If you don’t know me already, my name is Nida Allam. I'm a Durham County Commissioner, and the first Muslim woman elected to office in our state.

And I’m running for Congress in North Carolina’s 4th District.

I think you deserve to know why.

I grew up watching my mom give back to our community in food banks and at our Mosque. I saw how significant her service was and how much it impacted the people in our community who relied on her and her work.

I spent my weekends watching her live our faith through care for others by distributing food, teaching English, and more. None of it felt political. It was simply how we showed up for our neighbors.

It became about politics for me when my best friend, Yusor, her husband Deah, and her sister Razan were murdered in their home by a neighbor who hated them for being Muslim.

The media and elected officials called it a parking dispute, but everyone in the community knew what it really was — a hate crime.

I’m running for Congress because I know what happens when people who look like me don’t have a seat at the table.

I’m running for Congress because the incumbent I’m up against remains silent when courage is required to stand up to Donald Trump and his administration.

I’m running for Congress because we need the minimum wage to be a living wage, we need a Green New Deal, we should guarantee health care as a right and not a privilege, and we need to send every representative who is not brave enough to fight for these things home.

There’s plenty of room for hope, but we have to get to work — and fast.

Our primary is March 3, 2026, and early voting starts February 12th.

We’re fighting the good fight, and I’ve got an awesome coalition on my side, but we’re up against dark money from the same billionaires and corporations that have bought out Trump and his MAGA allies, so I need your help.
