We sat down with my good friend Aurora Conley of Bad River to talk about why she thinks it’s important for Native communities to vote in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election on April 7.

She made it very clear that when we vote, we are honoring the ancestors who came before us and making the world better for the future generations who come after us.

“We are the seventh generation from the 1854 Treaty,” she said. “This, today, here. Where we stand, where we sit, where we speak. We are who they thought about. That’s why your vote counts – for those that are not here any longer. And you vote for everything that was and everything that will be.”

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has the power to make decisions about Tribal sovereignty, Tribal rights, the Indian Child Welfare Act, environmental protections, voting rights, and more. We must vote on Tuesday, April 7 for the State Supreme Court election to ensure our Tribal sovereignty and communities are protected.
