Dear NRDC Activist,

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit Indigenous communities in the United States
the hardest. Just weeks ago, the Navajo Nation had the highest per capita
rate of cases in the entire country.

Yet in the midst of this unprecedented global crisis, the Trump
administration is heartlessly seizing the opportunity to fast-track a plan
to allow more fracking and drilling in the Greater Chaco region — an area
of cultural and spiritual significance for Indigenous peoples of
northwestern New Mexico.

Trump's plan could add up to around 3,000 new oil and gas wells to the
area, threatening the safety of the local air and water — and pumping out
exactly the kind of catastrophic pollution that makes people even more
susceptible to dying of coronavirus.

We're preparing to fight back with everything we've got to stop this
fossil fuel land grab but we need your help: [ [link removed] ]Pitch in TODAY with a $5
gift and it will DOUBLE, up to $200,000 — doing twice as much to protect
Greater Chaco and other crucial public lands.

During this pandemic, and with President Trump's blessings, corporate
polluters have been handed free rein to move forward with dangerous fossil
fuel extraction on public lands — including those around the Chaco Culture
National Historical Park.

Not only would reckless drilling in Greater Chaco poison the air for
nearby communities, it would devastate lands that are spiritually
important to Indigenous people. Drilling and fracking could destroy
artifacts with deep cultural meaning.

There's no doubt about it: The Trump administration will stop at nothing
to barrel ahead with dangerous, climate-destroying plans to drill on
public and sacred lands — even if it means adding thousands of oil and gas
wells that would harm the communities that live nearby and destroy lands
in Greater Chaco forever. We must put a stop to this.

[ [link removed] ]Your donation right now will DOUBLE in impact to help NRDC protect
these sacred lands from irreversible destruction. Give $5 now to help us
hit our $200,000 goal by July 31.

This is the moment we all need to come together. When we fight, we win.

Sincerely,

Alison Kelly
Senior Attorney, Lands Division, NRDC

Donations will be used to defend public lands from pollution-spewing oil
wells and for other campaigns that allow NRDC to protect the environment
in the most effective way possible.
