Email from Rian Immigrant Center   Dear Friends, We are writing to share significant news regarding the future of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. Yesterday, in what the New York Times called a “scathing opinion,” Judge Ana C. Reyes of the Federal District Court in Washington, D.C., paused the current administration’s efforts to terminate TPS for Haitians. TPS for Haiti was set to expire at the end of the day today, and this decision in the U.S. District Court allows TPS to continue for Haiti. This is a temporary but vital victory for the Haitian community. This decision provides time and much-needed relief for Haitians who have been facing job loss, destabilization, and fear. Thousands of Haitians in Massachusetts will be able to continue working and living without being subject to deportation. However, this decision is a temporary block to the current administration’s plan to terminate TPS for Haiti. We must remain vigilant and committed in our fight for justice as the administration is expected to appeal this decision and continues to threaten TPS for Haitians. We will continue to stand with the Haitian community and work towards justice and a permanent solution for Haitian TPS holders. As many members of the community face job loss, emotional distress, and instability, we are committed to continuing to provide legal services as well as resource and support services for the Haitian community. We appreciate your involvement and support as we continue to fight for a long-term solution. If you or someone you know is affected by this change and needs legal assistance or support services, please contact our immigration legal services team for a consultation.
