| Hi John, Last week in Philadelphia, I found myself asking a question I can’t shake. Do you still believe the American Dream is possible? We gathered at the National Constitution Center to kick off “One Small Step” — a yearlong reflection on America’s 250th anniversary — with a live taping of the “Ruthless” podcast. As the podcast rolled, I looked out at the audience and thought about how close we were to where our nation’s story began. Ordinary people, willing to take responsibility for their future and bold enough to believe they could shape it. Many Americans feel that promise slipping away. More government. Fewer opportunities. A sense that decisions are made for us, not by us. But here’s what last week reminded me: Freedom doesn’t defend itself, and prosperity doesn’t restore itself either. People do. The American Dream has never been guaranteed. It has always required action. The same founding principles that launched this nation still give us the power to shape what comes next, through our communities, our leaders, and the policies that expand opportunity rather than limit it. It’s about asking yourself: What role will I play in America’s next chapter? Learn more about getting involved with AFP here. Also, here’s a one-minute video from my conversation with “Ruthless” where I explain the challenges — and the possible triumphs — of restoring the American Dream. |
