Friend,
In January, we invited members of our community to share how they are honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through service. The responses we received were deeply moving — reminding us that service takes many forms: often quiet, often local, and always meaningful.
We’re honored to share a few of the stories submitted:
After experiencing personal loss, a community leader transformed grief into service by creating an inclusive, accessible playground and co-developing an innovative medical tool now used by families around the world.
An educator launched a college-preparatory program for inner-city high school students that pairs youth with university mentors, engages families, and celebrates academic success while opening pathways to higher education and careers.
A community-based nonprofit has spent more than a decade strengthening a Mississippi Delta town through free workforce training, youth education, and hands-on projects that revitalize public spaces and inspire civic pride.
A grassroots nonprofit in South Los Angeles has served tens of thousands in food-insecure communities by providing food, essential supplies, and emergency assistance rooted in dignity and compassion.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your story with us. These acts of service — both big and small — are powerful reminders that Dr. King’s call to serve others lives on through everyday choices and community care.
