Things are heating up. We need all hands on deck.

Friend — a bombshell report out of Trump's own Office of Inspector General has just sounded the alarm at the EPA. Early in the COVID-19 crisis, Trump suspended enforcement of virtually all environmental safeguards at the agency. Trump has since taken steps to make many of these suspensions permanent.

The watchdog report is scathing, declaring that the EPA is likely to be missing violations of environmental law and has reversed course on environmental justice. It declares officially, publicly, that the EPA under the Trump administration is not doing its job.

What happens next is critical. Last week, in a vote of 224-189, the House passed a bill to properly fund the EPA and block some of the worst of Trump's recent anti-environment actions — a move that could set the agency back to work. In response, Trump's EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler has called for a veto on funding for his own agency. This is practically unheard of.

This is headed for a major fight in the Senate, and it's going to move quickly. We are mounting a historic pressure campaign to ensure the EPA returns to work — but we are quickly running out of resources. Friend, we need your help — today.

Here's the deal: a major donor has agreed to contribute $500,000 to fund campaigns just like this one — but only if 10,000 LCV members make a donation before the end of this month.

Friend, this is serious. We are nearing the end of our Summer Membership Drive, and we are in danger of missing out on this goal. Take a look at where things stand and make a donation today »

The report also aptly called out the Trump administration for actively hindering the EPA from doing any work to promote environmental justice. Trump's public health and safety rollbacks disproportionately affect Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities. Due to systemic racism and injustice, those communities face higher rates of health issues like asthma due to poor air quality — and they are now seeing far higher death rates from COVID-19, too. The EPA could and should be doing more to combat environmental injustice. Under Trump's administration, it is doing the exact opposite.

Trump knows that this is likely his last chance to push through some of his most damaging policies to pander to his base — and he's quickly running out of time. He's pushing — hard — for the Republican-controlled Senate to force a long list of damaging amendments into the final bill, and as he continues to run into roadblocks, there's no telling what else he is liable to do.

Friend, I can't stress this enough: we cannot stay silent while the fate of the EPA — and the health of people across the country — is on the line. We must keep the pressure on and ensure Trump doesn't get his way.

We're just four days away from a critical deadline, which is why I'm reaching out now. We need to reach our goal of 10,000 donations from LCV members before the end of July, or we'll risk missing out on a $500,000 grant. We cannot afford to sit this one out.

The time is now. If everyone reading this right now pitched in — even $5 — we'd blow through this goal in minutes.

The best thing you can do right now is to renew your LCV membership today — it costs just $5 »

Thank you for being a part of this historic fight. I know we can do anything if we stand together.

Let's do this.
