Donald Trump said recently that Republicans should “take over” and “nationalize” elections. 

This comes on the heels of multiple rounds of comments by Trump that we should just “cancel” the Midterms, that having an election now would be “unfair” to him and the results of the last election. 

This can’t be dismissed as just talk or typical Trump bluster—because now they’re taking action, too. Last week, the FBI raided an Atlanta-area elections headquarters, hauling off truckloads of ballots and election data to investigate non-existent “fraud” from the 2020 election.

That is dystopian: citizens afraid to vote, ballots confiscated, dissent made illegal and deadly. We must reject this with all of our strength as loudly as we can.

We need people up for the moment. Attacks like this can’t be answered with the same conventional wisdom Democrats have been offering for decades. We can’t “vote harder.” We need real leaders with experience who will speak out and take action to counter MAGA. I will. 

I am a first-generation Mexican-American son of immigrants. I fought for human rights as an attorney and have served as a military officer and lawyer representing soldiers. I have seen how democracies die. And I have worked to bring far-right murderers to face justice.
