Pre-Legislative Session Update

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We are officially 2 weeks away from the 2026 Legislative Session. Since this year is not a budget year we will be focused on policy. As chair of the Veterans committee I will be focused on making sure our veterans are supported here in Minnesota.

One bill I will be introducing this session will add “veteran or military status” to the human rights act. This will make sure that no employer, apartment complex etc., can discriminate against anyone with veteran or active military status. I will continue to stand up for veteran affairs as we have more to address when it comes to veteran suicide, homelessness, and mental health challenges.

Even though this year is not a budget year we are still facing a major budget crisis. After the trifecta spent an 18 billion surplus and then raised taxes by 10 billion, Minnesota has a 6 billion deficit and a major fraud crisis. I am sure you have seen in the news about the fraud that has been plaguing our state. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson revealed details about the unprecedented fraud scandal unfolding in Minnesota, noting the total amount likely exceeds $9 billion. This problem has existed for years, yet many lawmakers from the inner cities either refused to acknowledge it or failed to investigate it. Fraud is not a partisan issue. Tax dollars from both Democrats and Republicans are being stolen, and Minnesotans should be outraged.

My goal this session is to hold the fraudsters and those in the administration who let it slide accountable. I am looking forward to getting back to work helping our district, veterans, communities, and state.

Looking Ahead

The 2026 legislative session starts on February 17th and I am sure we will see lots of policy trying to be pushed through.

* The Democrats will be trying to pass gun control laws that ban common fire arms and are a complete infringement on the 2nd amendment. I will fight to make sure that your rights are protected.
* Minnesota Republicans have been sounding the alarm on fraud for years and yet the Walz administration turned a blind eye and did nothing about it. Now they are caught with their tail between their legs and we will continue to make sure they are held accountable. Minnesotans deserve to keep their hard earned tax dollars and not have it lost to fraud.
