Dear Friends,

In 2025, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) worked relentlessly to defend the right to reliable information and protect journalism worldwide. It was a year marked by a rising number of attacks on the media, a growing disrespect for international law and a worrying rise in economic fragility across the news sector — but we took action to turn the tide.

Our statistics show that RSF has made progress at a time when half the global population resides in a country where press freedom is at extreme risk.

In 2025:
* 749 journalists received emergency assistance — that’s 33 more than in 2024. They came from 76 countries, notably Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, Russia and Sudan.
* 700 press releases exposed abuse against journalists and violations of press freedom in 140 countries and territories.
* 40 years of fighting for press freedom means that we can quickly adapt to ever-evolving threats, as evidenced by our first Propaganda Monitor report on the Russian disinformation and propaganda polluting the information space today.
* A staff of 65 members worked throughout the year. RSF is strengthening its team to overcome increasingly complex challenges and escalating crises.
* 1 new bureau opened in Prague, expanding our work in Eastern Europe.

In a world where the future of press freedom is at a critical juncture and the RSF World Press Freedom Index is turning a darker red, your support is truly vital and fuels all our work. Thank you.

Together, let’s continue our work without borders, without fear and without limits — but never without you.

Thibaut Bruttin, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Director General
