Trump tells Republicans they must take over and "nationalize" future elections
No big deal. Just America's wannabe dictator openly calling for the GOP to take over future elections, hollow out representative democracy, and cement one-party rule indefinitely. "The Republicans should say, we want to take over, we should take over the voting, the voting in at least many, 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting," the nincompoop-in-chief told Dan Bongino, the former deputy director of the FBI, in a podcast appearance.
Trump's call for the GOP to somehow seize control of future elections comes less than a week after he ordered the FBI to search an elections office in Fulton County, Georgia, which has long been a centerpiece of the con man's baseless claims that his 2020 loss to Joe Biden was fraudulent. Trump even spoke directly with agents on the scene by phone, which, to be clear, is wildly unusual and incredibly problematic.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard admitted that Trump himself directed her to go to Atlanta for the controversial search. Gabbard reportedly arranged the phone call between FBI field agents and Trump, which one source laughably characterized as a "pep talk." Any questions?

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump Justice Department gets bad news on Epstein files
The Trump regime has fought every step of the way to bury, obfuscate, and redact into oblivion literally millions Epstein files, despite being legally bound to comply with a law Trump himself was forced to sign requiring their full release. And while the Justice Department finally released another sizeable tranche of documents that lawmakers and journalists are currently pouring over, the bigger story is the MILLIONS of files Pam Bondi and her MAGA goons are still keeping under lock and key at the DOJ.
Brian Tyler Cohen spoke with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna about efforts he and fellow House members Jamie Raskin and Thomas Massie are currently taking to compel the executive branch to comply with the law. Khanna warned the process could take years, but he vowed to press on. There's an old Greek proverb that sums this up nicely: "The wheels of justice turn slowly but grind exceedingly fine." It's understandably frustrating, but we must keep grinding, folks.

MAGA Speaker Mike Johnson's Congressional majority is down to just ONE VOTE.
Flip the House: We have a very real opportunity to flip the house and finally put some clamps on Donald Trump's reign of terror and chaos this November, but it's not going to be easy. Trump has made it clear that there's nothing he won't do to try to tilt the scales in his favor, so we need to win by a decisive enough majority that there's no way he can pull any shenanigans. We've put together a donation page that will split any gifts between a group of Democratic candidates all locked in close, winnable House races, and every dollar might mean the difference between democracy or fascism. Will you chip in to help retake our country and stop Trump in his tracks?
Every Homeland Security officer in Minneapolis is now being issued a body-worn camera, Kristi Noem says
Oh, good. Just in time. This news will surely come as great comfort to the families of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and the thousands of Minnesotans who've been terrorized by Trump's cosplay bounty hunters for weeks now.

Clintons agree to testify in House Epstein investigation ahead of contempt of Congress vote
Former President Bill Clinton and former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton have reportedly agreed to testify in the House investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, even as Rep. James Comer, the chair of the House Oversight Committee, continued to press for criminal contempt of Congress charges against the couple. The last-minute negotiating came as Republican leaders were advancing a contempt resolution through the House Rules Committee — a potentially grave moment for Congress. The legislative branch has never held a former president in contempt, a charge that would theoretically carry the threat of prison time. Great, all well and good! Now do the guy currently running a criminal empire out of the Oval Office.

Former SportsCenter host tells anti-ICE musicians to "shut up and sing"
Former ESPN host Sage Steele dropped by Jesse Watters' show last night to mock the "pathetic" musicians who dared to speak up at the Grammys on Sunday and rightly criticized Trump's authoritarian ICE crusade because, she claimed, they are too ignorant to opine. "And I'd liken it to what the great Laura Ingraham said years ago," Steele said, referring to Ingraham's dig directed at LeBron James in 2018: "[S]hut up and dribble, shut up and sing, because you're super talented, but you don’t know what you’re talking about."
Oookay. Just so we're clear here: play professional sports or work in the entertainment industry? Keep your mouth shut. TALK about people playing professional sports or working in the entertainment industry = bloviate to your rotten heart's content. Got it.

Texas Democratic Senate primary thrown into chaos by TikToker's allegations
A scene of deeply embarrassing drama played out on social media last night as the Democratic Senate primary race between Rep. Jasmine Crockett and state lawmaker James Talarico took a turn for the nasty. A TikToker, Morgan Thompson, created a video in which she claimed Talarico called failed Senate candidate Colin Allred, who dropped out of the primary two months ago, "a mediocre Black man." Without waiting to hear Talarico's side of the story or do any vetting at all, Allred filmed a deeply cringe response call-out video in which he declared "don't come for me unless I send for you," implied that Talarico was racist, and endorsed Crockett.
Talarico released a measured statement in response in which he explained that he had (accurately) called Allred's campaigning style "mediocre" before adding: "his life and service are not. I would never attack him on the basis of race." Crockett's team, which many suspect is behind the entire thing, given her past use of the term "mediocre" to disparage "mediocre white boys" complaining about DEI, did not address the allegations directly but praised Allred for standing for people who have “been targeted & talked about in demeaning ways.”
Folks, what are we DOING here? Read the freaking room! We absolutely do not have time or money to waste on this stupid bullshit! We need to fight for every Senate seat like our democracy depends on it, because it DOES, and the absolute last thing we need is ridiculous infighting over second-hand personal slights!
"Melania" doc lands brutal 6% score on Rotten Tomatoes: "Pure, endless hell"
Disgraced filmmaker Brett Ratner's $75 million fluff piece on Donald Trump's third wife is struggling at the global box office, in no small part due to its universally woeful reviews. The documentary has racked up an abysmal 6% on Rotten Tomatoes, a worse aggregated critical score than that of universally maligned features such as 2019's "Cats" or the third installment in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" franchise. "'Melania' is a level of insipid propaganda that almost resists review," wrote Kevin Fallon for The Daily Beast. Xan Brooks wrote for The Guardian, "The fun’s not infectious and the guests are a nightmare, and two hours of Melania feels like pure, endless hell." Ok, sure. But have you seen the fella she's married to?!
Paris prosecutors raid X offices as part of investigation into child abuse images and deepfakes
French prosecutors raided the offices of Elon Musk’s social media platform X on Tuesday as part of a preliminary investigation into a range of alleged offenses, including spreading child sexual abuse images and pornographic deepfakes. The investigation was opened in January last year by the prosecutors’ cybercrime unit, the Paris prosecutors’ office said in a statement. It’s looking into alleged "complicity" in possessing and spreading pornographic images of minors, sexually explicit deepfakes, denial of crimes against humanity, and manipulation of an automated data processing system as part of an organized group, among other charges.
A timely reminder that Elon has repeatedly brushed aside said allegations, attributing the generation of deeply disturbing content as simply the result of Grok operating in "spicy mode." It's cute and in no way exploitative when you give it an innocuous name, right?
Chief Justice Roberts using NDAs at Supreme Court to keep inner workings secret
The highest, most secretive court in the land is even more opaque than previously known. According to new reports from The New York Times, since late 2024 Chief Justice John Roberts has been instructing Supreme Court employees to sign nondisclosure agreements promising to keep the court's inner workings secret — under threat of legal action. The Times noted: "The chief justice acted after a series of unusual leaks of internal court documents, most notably of the decision overturning the right to abortion, and news reports about ethical lapses by the justices. Trust in the institution was languishing at a historic low. Debate was intensifying over whether the black box institution should be more transparent. Instead, the chief justice tightened the court’s hold on information."
What better way to restore faith and confidence in the most consequential court in the land than to drape the entire institution with an invisibility cloak? Remember this the next time you ask yourself who the government actually serves: the people or the powerful?
House GOP hardliners complicate ending government shutdown as Speaker Johnson tries to deliver for Trump
House Speaker Mike Johnson has seen his role reduced to that of a glorified water boy, doing Dear Leader's bidding while trying to rein in hardliners in his own caucus threatening to tank a deal to end the partial government shutdown now entering its third day. Donald Trump has demanded the House pass the Senate bill with "no changes," a tall order for the diminutive speaker, who openly admitted days ago that he's just following the president's lead and is doing his best to wrangle far-right hold outs. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has signaled that Johnson is on his own this time. "Republicans are in the majority in this institution," Jeffries said. "If they have some massive mandate, then go pass your rule." Time will tell.
