Dear John,

Right now, as Medicare prepares to celebrate its 55th anniversary, this program continues to come under attack by so-called fiscal hawks in Congress and in the Trump Administration who want to use Medicare benefits to pay for other fiscal priorities, including deficit reduction, coronavirus economic relief and massive tax breaks for the wealthy and multinational corporations.

That's why the National Committee needs your help to keep Medicare strong and effective for another 55 years by making a generous Medicare Anniversary Gift of $10 or $5, which will support our important advocacy efforts on your behalf to protect and strengthen Medicare for current and future generations of Americans.

Remember, candidate Trump promised not to touch the popular Medicare program. Yet, the past three White House budget proposals have included massive cuts to Medicare and it's clear President Trump is receptive to the idea of targeting this program again should he be elected to serve a second term in office. Opponents of Medicare believe this program's funds should be used to help pay for their massive expansion of tax breaks for the wealthy that have added more than $1.9 trillion to budget deficits. President Trump is even reported to have said gutting Medicare would be a "second term project."

As you know, Medicare is one of our nation's most successful government programsand it's a program that millions of older citizens have paid into and earned during their long working lives. So, at a time when 10,000 Americans are turning 65 every day and signing up for Medicare, any cuts to this program would be completely unfair and dangerous to the health security of millions of older Americans.

With your support, we will continue to make it clear to the President and members of Congress that Medicare is an earned benefit — you paid into this program your entire working life in exchange for health benefits during your senior years — and it is not to be used as a piggy bank by politicians in Washington to pay for other fiscal priorities!

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
