Patriot,

I recently sat down with Adam Carolla for a conversation that stuck
with me long after the cameras stopped rolling.

He has a gift for cutting through the nonsense, and during our
interview, he didn’t hold back.

ADAM TOLD ME THAT WE’RE RAISING KIDS LIKE PETS — “CRATE
TRAINING” THEM WAS THE PHRASE HE USED. 

When you crate train a dog, you’re teaching them to run to their
crate–their safe space–when they get scared or overwhelmed.

The problem, of course? This is only the illusion of safety. If the
house is on fire, and the dog runs into the crate to feel safe,
they’re still in a house that’s on fire. 

This metaphor is fitting for today’s society. Many of us treat our
kids too delicately, with too much caution and protection. And it
doesn’t set them up for success.

FRAGILE CHILDREN DO NOT BECOME RESILIENT ADULTS READY FOR THE
CHALLENGES OF THE REAL WORLD. 

If they’re going to succeed in life, we need to inspire them and
teach them the skills necessary so they can save themselves.

Traditionally, that role has belonged to dads. Fathers are the ones
who set an example for their children to follow by demonstrating the
value of hard work and earning a living. They’re essential for
raising children into healthy adults.

Adam also spoke at length about what is causing our kids to grow up
resentful.

Parents thought they could fix any problem that children are having
with the self-esteem movement. They started feeding their children a
steady diet of _“you’re the best,” “you’re special“, and
“don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”_

But all we got, Adam says, were “entitled, high self-esteem, lazy
losers.”

_AFTER KIDS ARE TOLD YEAR AFTER YEAR HOW GREAT THEY ARE — ONLY TO
FACE THE HARD LESSONS OF THE REAL WORLD — WHY WOULDN’T THEY BE
ANGRY? _
