First up today, someone in Colorado proved how absurd federal firearms rules have become by registering a potato as a suppressor. Yes — a literal potato — and it exposed just how goofy some of these regulations are.
In federal court news, the appeals court just tossed the felon gun ban for someone whose only conviction was meth possession, finding the law can’t be applied that way — a big win for Second Amendment rights.
On the political front, after campus carry bills failed, a South Dakota representative lashed out… saying he didn’t even realize he was serving on Minnesota’s education committee. Oof.
Meanwhile, the DOJ is backing the Firearms Policy Coalition in a lawsuit challenging Massachusetts’ ban on commonly owned pistols, and the Second Amendment Foundation filed an amicus urging the Supreme Court to reject federal gun bans targeting marijuana users.
In state legislatures, Wisconsin lawmakers want to eliminate the need for concealed carry permits statewide — a move that would expand permitless carry even further.
We also saw another defensive gun use in Chicago’s Belmont-Cragin neighborhood where a concealed-carry holder shot an armed robbery suspect during an attempted carjacking.
